The wok is a traditional cooking appliance in China and other Asian countries. Originally, the wok had a completely round shape and sat in a ring of fire, so the heat below was very high and quickly decreased at the edges. The wok was probably born out of necessity: the lack of firewood. Therefore, the preparation had to go quickly. A portioning of the food on bite-sized pieces does the rest to speed. In the wok, the food is quickly stirred up with a bucket adapted to the wok`s curvature, so that only a small portion of the food always has direct contact with the wok`s hottest spot. The rest is cooking on the colder walls.
