Jackfruit is originally native to India and is now widespread in all tropical countries, especially in Southeast Asia. A single fruit can grow up to 1 m long, 50 cm wide and weigh 90 kg. The inside contains numerous yellow, sweet, juicy, very pleasantly tropical smelling and tasting individual fruits, each containing a large brown seed. Jackfruit is one of the tastiest fruits ever. In many Asian countries they are staple foods due to their high starch content and protein, calcium and phosphorus content. These jackfruits are pickled in syrup and their pulp contains edible seeds. They are added to fruit salads and used for ice cream.
