Polyalcohol obtained by converting maltose from starch, usually from corn. It has a sweetening power 0.8 times higher than sugar (sucrose) and is used in the manufacture of products such as chocolate, candy, chewing gum, biscuits (in dough as a substitute for sucrose) and products for diabetics in general. It is also widely used in ice cream parlors to make lower-calorie and less sweet products. In large quantities it can have a laxative effect. Mix all components according to the preparation.
