The Riesling grapes for the Karthauser thrive on a south-west slope on the Nahe. Red rock weathering. The Riesling: dry, complex and expressive, ripe fruity body, spicy aftertaste. The Tesch winery in Langenlonsheim is truly a traditional winery, and has been family-owned since 1723. Martin Tesch, current patron of the winery and graduate microbiologist, is a passionate advocate of the concept of terroir and at least as passionate an opponent of uniform mass production. In practice, this means: controlled environmentally friendly viticulture, selective grape harvest by hand and fully fermented .
