The pasteis de nata (singular pastel) are a Lisbon speciality. They are said to have been invented in a monastery in Belem, a district of Lisbon. The terrible thing about them: They are absolutely delicious! After defrosting, they only need to be put in the oven for a short while until they are golden brown and possibly dark brown in some places. Then you are exactly right. The classic way is to powder them with a little cinnamon. And we recommend them with coffee, but actually we would always like to enjoy them.
