The Riesling grapes for the Carthusians grow on a south-western slope on the Nahe. Red rock weathering. The Riesling: dry, complex and expressive, ripe, fruity body, spicy aftertaste. The Tesch winery in Langenlonsheim is truly a traditional winery, it has been family-owned since 1723. Martin Tesch, the current patron of the winery and a trained microbiologist, is a passionate advocate of the terroir concept and at least as passionate an opponent of uniform mass production. In practice, this means: controlled, environmentally friendly viticulture, selective grape harvesting by hand and fully fermented wines. The result: pure Riesling!
