This whisky is the first in a three-part series (anthology = literary collection). Each Ardbeg in the anthology series combines two beings, just like the mystical creatures of Greek mythology. The Harpy - a legendary animal from ancient mythology that is half human, half bird - bears a striking resemblance to this whisky, which is elusive in nature and complex in style. A whisky that was matured for 13 years in two types of casks and then married: 1: Sauternes casks (rare and sought-after brings sweetness), also the first Ardbeg to be matured in Sauternes casks. 2: Ex-Bourbon (classic Ardbeg smokiness). Nose: Very pronounced oily, with notes of extra virgin olive oil, briar root, aromatic herbs such as coriander and sage, a hint of smoked lemon zest. A splash of water releases further oiliness, like linseed oil, with a slight waxiness and some creme brulee. Palate: A soft, oily texture with a rich, sweet and smoky taste. Notes of oak moss, molasses, aniseed candy with a lovely sweet and woody balsamic tone, aromas of smoked apricots and eucalyptus oil follow. The finish is long-lasting, sweet and smoky, with some cumin, cardamom and a hint of coconut.
