Urziger Wurzgarten Unterst Pichter Riesling GG RESERVE Old vines dry The original Urziger Wurzgarten is the only site on the Middle Mosel that is not dominated by slate. The soil is called Rotliegend, a weathered conglomerate of volcanic origin. As the name suggests, we have very different aromas here than in the slate-dominated sites with their stone fruit aromas. They are often spicy, herbal and slightly earthy aromas. The wines are full-bodied, although the acidity is often a little lower due to the special soil. The ungrafted vines from which Dr. Loosen produces this great Riesling are up to 120 years old. They are located in a plot called `Unterst Pichter` and rise steeply directly behind the village in the heart of the Wurzgarten.
