The second edition of the Ardbeg Anthology Collection comes from Madeira and Bourbon barrels. The second release in the Ardbeg Anthology Collection is coming out: a temptingly sweet bottling of 14-year-old whisky matured in Madeira and former Bourbon barrels. Lovers will discover the ultimate smoky aromas with notes of banana, menthol and lime in the new The Unicorn`s Tale. In the Anthology Collection, Ardbeg experimentally combines rare single malts from unusual barrel combinations. As a tribute to the hybrid style of these whiskies, the bottlings are named after legendary figures. The Unicorn`s Tale is a mysterious single malt. It combines the tropical sweetness of whisky matured in Malmsey Madeira barrels with the spicy, smoky notes typical of Ardbeg. This results in a fruity, aromatic and smoky creation. The bottling follows the first release in Ardbeg`s new range: The Harpy`s Tale, which features Ardbeg`s first whisky matured in Sauternes casks. Dr. Bill Lumsden, Ardbeg`s Director of Whisky Creation, says: `We like to experiment with how we can add new dimensions to our whiskies through the balance of smoke and aroma. Our decision to mature Ardbeg in unusual cask types laid the foundation for sweet and smoky `hybrids` - and the Anthology Collection was born. The Unicorn`s Tale is the second release in the series and with 14 years of maturation it may seem sweet, but its smoky On the nose: Rich, sweet, aromatic and fruity - aromas of banana bread and sponge cake fill the senses. Syrup notes transform into an unmistakable scent of burning cedar wood. A small splash of water releases an abundance of tropical fruits. Eucalyptus oil blends with mild, aromatic smoke. Palate: Lime and sweet peaches gallop across the tongue. Strong aromas of smoked fruit and baked bread give way to antiseptic lozenges, creosote tar and anise. Barley malt notes combine with nutmeg and peat smoke. Finish: The influence of rare Madeira casks is undeniable. A moody, smoky finish greets a long and lingering finish of menthol, clove, wood smoke and camphor.
