What ouzo is to the Greeks and beer to the Germans, soju is to the Koreans. However, the mild liquor tastes more like vodka. It is ideal for cocktails with fruit, juices and lemonade. The original has around 20% ABV and is traditionally drunk cold with food, at parties and gatherings. There are also sojus with flavours and fruit juices, for example with grape flavour. Here the alcohol content is of course a little lower at 13% and is better suited to drinking neat. It is now becoming increasingly popular to mix soju with beer. You use 1-2 shot glasses per bottle of beer. The whole thing is called somaek (soju + maekchu (beer)).
