What ouzo is to the Greeks and beer to the Germans, soju is to the Koreans. However, the mild liquor tastes more like vodka. It is ideal for cocktails with fruit, juices and lemonade. The original has around 20% ABV, while Chamisul Fresh only has 16.9%, which is because it has been filtered through bamboo charcoal several times and is therefore purer and fresher in taste. It is traditionally drunk cold with food, at parties and gatherings. There are also sojus with flavors and fruit juices. It is now becoming increasingly popular to mix soju with beer. You use 1-2 shot glasses per bottle of beer. The whole thing is called somaek (soju + maekchu (beer)).
