DE-OKO-022 Wild fermented Riesling Spatlese from Motzenbacker by Marie Menger- Krug. Moon wood is processed wood, felled to a specific lunar rhythm. In the first new moon phase in the New Year, slow-growing oaks that have grown on barren soil are felled as moon wood. At this position of the moon, the sap from the plants and trees retreats towards the ground. The pores of the trees are very narrow, which makes moon wood exceptionally strong. Experience shows that fire-resistant cookware and the support beams of houses have always been made from moon wood. Robust, fire-resistant and yet delicate to work with. The magical sound of the Stradivari is born in moon wood. Matured in moon oak barrels. Four moon oak barrels were felled for Motzenbacker in the Swabian Alb after the first full moon in 2004. The trees themselves decided on the barrel size (between 1530L and 3460L). After the cooper`s initial scepticism, which turned into enthusiasm for moon wood after the first steps of barrel production, the first wine was put into the barrels in 2007. These wines were put into moon barrels as must, fermented in them and left to rest on the full yeast for six months. The wines were filtered and bottled at the sensorially perfect time. The result is astonishing. The moon oak barrel does not dominate the wine by any means - instead it gently carries it and cradles it in a cradle. The wines impress with their clear play of aromas, supported by delicate vanilla and floral notes and are carried by an extraordinary structure. Wines with length and character.
