2023 Ried Loibenberg DAC Riesling, dry, 12.5% vol., Pichler

In 2020, the Pichler winery withdrew from the Vinea Wachau association. As a result, its wines are no longer permitted to bear the names Federspiel and Smaragd. The FX Pichler winery in the Wachau wine-growing region of Lower Austria has been owned by the family for five generations. Today, the 20-hectare estate is managed by his son Lucas and his wife Johanna. The vineyards are planted exclusively with white grape varieties. The two flagship Wachau varieties, Gruner Veltliner (52%) and Riesling (47%), are complemented by a small proportion of Sauvignon Blanc (1%). The estate`s vineyards are located on the Gfohler Gneiss, a 488-million-year-old rock composed of feldspar, gneiss, and mica schist. These soils, in combination with the best Wachau vineyards, are responsible for the finesse, structure and minerality of Pichler wines.
