The hickory tree native to North America and Asia carries the pecan fruit. The shape of the cores indicates the relationship with the walnut. The pecan, however, is longer, firmer in texture and much sweeter in flavor. It has the same four-part basic shape, but its soft-bred shell is much easier to crack. Pecan nuts are especially popular for baking in cakes, biscuits and biscuits. However, a large part of the harvest comes roasted and salted on the market. They also serve as a supplier of edible oils and make walnut flour. Store in a refrigerator or freeze.
