Bomba rice is a rare rice variety that was grown mainly in the 19th century. Through a hobby of the family Trias, which manages for many years the estate Illa de Riu in the estuarine delta of the Ebro, the variety Bomba is still cultivated. The Bomba rice plants are with 1.2 m much higher than the plants of common rice varieties and require the highest care. Nevertheless, they only bring about half of the yield. On the other hand, the small, round grains of the Bomba, which grow 2-3 times during cooking, are particularly aromatic. The rice remains firm during cooking and does not fray, and is particularly suitable for paella, risotto or traditional oven preparation.
