Basil seeds are used in Asian cuisine as a thickening agent, for example in fruit juices, yoghurt drinks or desserts. Most of the seeds are soaked in water to continue to use them. They have not swollen to slightly nutty taste. These properties are in contrast to the avant-garde or molecular gastronomy that likes to use basil seeds as flavor carriers and / or for decoration. The seeds are soaked in marinades such as lime juice with salt, to complete fish and lemon caviar in taste and visually. A marinade of espresso and soy sauce makes the basil seeds look like real caviar. The imagination to taste combinations and decoration are so limited.
