This pepper comes from the Penja Valley in Cameroon in western Africa. The equatorial climate, with a balanced ratio of sun and rain, as well as the fertile soils of volcanic origin favor the cultivation of pepper plants. The harvest quantities are small, so the pepper is very rare and sought after. The smell is reminiscent of softwoods, ground like fresh wood. The pepper heat is very abrupt and hot. Unlike chilies, the spiciness doesn`t last long. Black Cameroon pepper flavors meat dishes and darker soups and sauces.
