  • Weingut Peth-Wetz

    Weingut Rheinhessen / Germany

Between Worms and Alzey lies the vineyard of Christian Peth and his family, which he performs with his wife Maja Luise. As the owner and winemaker Christian is responsible for the management of currently 30 hectares around the places Bermersheim, Dalsheim and Westhofen. The vines are planted on loess and limestone soils. For the GaultMillau Wine Guide, the winery is already one of the leading wine-farms in Rheinhessen.

The wine style is distinctive and confident. Christian is not afraid of powerful,
tannin and concentrated character wines, as he has learned during his time in Chile, Australia and the USA, on the stages of his training as a winemaker and viticulture during his studies in Geisenheim, know and love. Also Maja is much come around: your time in Luxembourg, in Turkey and in Florida it has, as well as Christians abroad, particularly marked. Both are open to the world. So in Weingut Peth-Wetz standing beside German classics, especially varieties like Petit Verdot, Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc in focus.

In this respect means the stylistic decision for regional accents, but internationally inspired reds not about to to serve a wine trend, but quite the opposite: Consistent focus on a unique selling point - powerhouses with bespoke features.

With major investments in cellar, grape reception, stainless steel tanks and oak barrels - of which around 350 barrels in use - took place in a few years the transformation of a bulk wine operation medium size for top winery with claim to a leadership role among German wine producers.

Meticulous selection of the best clones, perfect selection and long aging in oak barrels are the basis of Christian Peths Weinbergs- and cellar work. The best wines are aged 24 months more in selected barriques best provenance as Francois Freres or Sylvain. Instead of easy filtration with diatomaceous earth, maintains his basement team the laborious removal of each timber barrel by hand. So Peth preserves the wines a structure that despite a lot of power, can, taste elegant and almost cool.

Consistently the best wines are named not for example Great Growth or selection but hot and Grand Vintage Assemblage reserve! Worldwide Inspirational held regional small-small. Worldview, foresight, but regional roots. Or quite free to Alexander von Humboldt: Who has the world never looked at, often pursued a dangerous belief. This applies also provide for the wine.
