Foundation of the Maison Bouvet Ladubay

At the age of 23, Etienne Bouvet acquired an 8 km cellar in Saint-Hilaire-Saint-Florent and founded the Maison Bouvet Ladubay, linking his name to that of his wife Celestine Ladubay.
In 1878 Etienne Bouvet had a castle built for himself and his family. Architect Ernest Piette from the Saumur region, a student of Joly-Leterme, architect of the historic monuments of the city of Saumur, was entrusted with the realization. Etienne Bouvet also builds housing estates for his employees on his site.
A few years later, he cleared land on the banks of the Thouet, created a port, installed huge horse stables protected by a glass roof, built his own power station to light his 8 kilometers of cellars and set up a shipping hall. As an educated man, he builds a small theater and thus offers his employees access to culture.
