Markus Molitor winery - Moselle wine region
In 1984, when he was just 20, Markus Molitor took over his father`s 3-hectare winery. Despite his youth, his vision was very clear and ambitious: to help the Moselle return to its old glory with individual, site-typical, distinctive and extremely storable Rieslings.
Weingut Markus Molitor
Markus Molitor takes over 1984 at the age of 20 his fathers estate with a clear objective: In the tradition of eight generations should under the name Molitor Mosel Rieslings originate and how they led the region to world fame 100 years ago - location typical, distinctive and extremely storable.
From learning earlier - Uncompromising quality (hand) work and selection in the vineyard, harvesting and precision combined in the basement with the knowledge and experience to nature, grape and wine - each layer and each vintage come taste expressed.
Wines from Markus Molitor show the potential of the Mosel terroir - structure and depth of flavor combined with freshness and elegance. The seat of the estate is surrounded by the Wehlener Klosterberg and farmed vineyards in 15 different positions, each unique in your own way - and the only reason why a Molitor Location .
Old inclination
Until about 100 years old, ungrafted vines as the basis for unparalleled, finest Mosel Rieslings. The steepest slopes with up to 80% inclination are farmed in loving detail by hand.
80% Inclination - 94% Riesling - 100% passion
The Molitor Vineyards are of Brauneberg to Traben-Trarbach and since 2001 also on the Saar. Through further regional expansion and the concomitant diversity of microclimates and slate soils of the vineyards represent the Molitor wines all varieties of Mosel wine.
The vineyard is mainly planted with Riesling - on selected plots grow the outstanding white and Pinot Noir. Pinot Noir on the Mosel? Only in the 30s of the wine-producing on the Moselle was prohibited by law - what many do not know the past, large vineyards on the Mosel were planted with Pinot Noir!
Selected handwork
Multiple Selection, entirely handmade, conscious evaluation of each grape - harvesting as labor-intensive period in the year is decisive for the quality of what is in the bottle. With an experienced team, the grapes are picked in multiple passes exclusively by hand - as is what observed and maintained at about 350 days a year carefully should also refer to the harvest its peak.
Time is a critical factor. Despite the increased risk is not harvested until very late. Thus there is sufficient time for the physiological maturity of the grapes - the most important criterion to extract increased value in animating acid to develop the optimal balance of the wines.
