Wines Germany - Rheinhessen - Hofmann

Slate meets muschelkalk

The Gault Millau is described by him as a veritable treasure of thousands. And who knows Juergen Hofmann knows how aptly this statement describes the active, always cheerful winemaker.

  • Hofmann Winery

In 1971, Klaus and Irene Hofmann converted the former mixed agricultural business into an independent winery. Son Jurgen discovered his passion for his parents` business relatively late, but then tackled the matter with all the more passion. In 1996, he took over his parents` winery in the tranquil town of Appenheim and restructured it from the ground up. The vineyard area was reduced to 20.5 hectares and the focus was only on the top locations with a high proportion of limestone and slate, as well as the most important grape varieties such as Riesling, Silvaner and various types of Burgundy. With his wife Carolin, he not only produces his own wines, but also wine projects as part of various collaborations.

  • Two wineries - one love

When Carolin and Jurgen Hofmann married in June 2006, they merged their two parental wineries and built a bridge between the Saar and Rheinhessen. Since then, they have pursued their philosophy of producing top-quality wines together - for two regions, from one location. A great challenge, which they easily met with the comment place.
